MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Covenant men's tennis headed to Memphis recently to participate in the ITA DIII Men's South Regional Championship, with
Drew Eldridge making a run to the semifinals in his flight to highlight the event.
Eldridge, a freshman from Fayetteville, Ga., earned a first round bye in his flight before dispatching Ozarks' Jumpei Takemoto 5-3, 4-1, before falling to Paolo Cargnuletti of Asbury, 6-1, 5-7, 10-5.
Cameron Erb also escaped the first round in his flight, beating Lucas Junkermann of Hendrix 4-1, 4-2, before losing to Benjamin Schneider of Maryville 7-6 (5), 6-1.
The final players to reach at least the second round were in flight C1, as
Samuel Yang, who upended Daniel Leard of Oglethorpe, 2-4, 4-2, 10-1, before falling to Martin Gamonal of MUW, 6-1, 6-1 in round two.
Gunner Long defeated Eric Vornhagen of Maryville 3-5, 4-2, 11-9 before losing to Andre Harfush of Asbury, 6-1, 6-2.
In other results,
Caleb Domkowski fell in the first round to N.C. Wesleyan's Jackson Fischer, 6-1, 6-3, and
Keaton Bartley lost to Adam Singleton of N.C. Wesleyan, 6-3, 6-1 in flight A.
In flight B,
Lincoln Shine fell to August Allen of Sewanee, 4-0, 4-1, and
Gavin Patton dropped his matchup with Myles Carbis of Oglethorpe, 4-2, 4-1.
The final competitors for the Scots were
Leyton Hull, who lost 4-1, 5-4 (4) to Isaac Nelson of Berry in flight C1, and
Daniel Matousek, who fell 4-0, 4-0 to Carguletti.
