ORLANDO, Fla. -- Freshman
Lincoln Shine came up clutch again, winning his No. 6 slot singles match to clinch a 4-3 win for men's tennis against Calvin on Monday.
Shine, a freshman from Knoxville, Tenn., earned his second clincher of the season, and his fourth singles win in a row with his clutch performance.
The match began with a doubles sweep, as Covenant's No. 1 pairing of
Ben Onufrock and
Caleb Domkowski defeated Alipio and Neto 6-2,
Graham Hayes and
Brock Boehling won against Sartori and Castellanos 6-2 at No. 2, and
Jacob Eldridge and
Cameron Erb beat Warners and Bartels 6-4 to earn the sweep.
At No. 1 singles, Calvin tied things up as Alipio beat Onufrock 7-5, 6-2, but Domkowski got the lead right back with his 6-1, 6-4 win over Bartels at No. 2.
Hayes then fell to Sartori in a close one, 6-4, 7-6, as the Knights knotted things up at two. Boehling answered with a 6-4, 6-1 win at his No. 4 spot, but
Gavin Patton dropped a 6-3, 6-3 match to Neto at No. 5 to have it all come down to Shine at No. 6.
Shine delivered again.
After taking a hard-fought first set 7-5, Shine dominated set two, winning 6-2 over Warners to give the Scots the victory.
