MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Covenant women's basketball put together a strong second quarter, but could not keep up the momentum as they fell to Maryville, 73-53, at Cooper Athletic Center in Maryville on Tuesday evening.
Amanda Neff paced Covenant (5-16, 4-8 CCS) in scoring with 15, including 4-of-9 from downtown, along with six boards, two blocks and two steals.
Violet Wright contributed 11 points, six boards, and four assists as well.
Maryville (11-8, 7-4 CCS) jumped out early, leading 22-10 after one. Covenant started to gain some life early in the second quarter, going on a couple of short bursts to inch closer.Â
Hannah Eidson and
Cair Canady got the period started with a pair of buckets, and then
Jada Sanders got involved with three straight points and a steal to keep the Scots close.
Emma Kaye Fuller would add a jumper of her own with 1:40 remaining in the quarter to close the gap to four, and then Neff capped off the strong quarter with a last second 3-pointer to pull back to within five at half.
Neff and Wright would continue to keep things tight with five unanswered points in the early stages of the third period, but that would be as close as things got the rest of the way, as Maryville was able to extend their lead to double digits in the third and keep their foot on the gas in the fourth to cruise to the win.
Maryville was led by Emily Wilson, who dropped 20 points, while Kadence Stoner added 12.Â
