ATLANTA, Ga. -- Covenant golf was selected third in the CCS preseason poll, announced the conference on Wednesday.
The Scots are coming off a program-best finish in a conference tournament last season, ranking third behind eventual Division III National Tournament invitees Huntingdon and Piedmont.
Head coach
Eddie Jackson returns for his fourth season at the helm, hoping to continue to build up the Covenant golf program.
Covenant returns four seniors, one junior, and three sophomores, while adding five freshmen to the mix.
The senior class includes
Jonathan Brezina,
Wiley Hickerson,
Toby Matson, and
Tristan Mayhand. Hickerson has the most experience of the senior class, appearing in seven tournaments last year and posting a career-best round of 68 at the Coastal Georgia Invitational this fall.
The lone junior is
Drew Silman, who, last season, became the first player in program history to win an individual conference title, shooting 2-under for the tournament, including a 5-under, 67 in the opening round. He earned an All-CCS second team honor for his efforts, and sat 85th in the Clippd rankings at the end of the year.
The sophomore class is made up of
Ayden Cordell,
Zach Holmlund, and
Isaac Randolph. Cordell appeared in nine tournaments last season and recorded three top-20 finishes, while Holmlund and Randolph look to build off their freshman experience as well.
Cole Godwin,
Garrett Humbert,
Austin Jones,
Carson Pruitt, and
Will Sporalsky make up the freshman class for Covenant, and will prepare to make an impact in their freshman campaigns.
The spring season begins for the Scots on March 2-3, as they head to Savannah, Ga. for the Port City Classic. They then will have tournaments each of the next three weeks before going to the Sam Snead Invite in Amherst, Va. on April 13-14.
The CCS Tournament is scheduled for April 27-29 in Dalton, Ga.
Current No. 1-ranked Huntingdon sat atop the preseason poll, with No. 21-ranked Piedmont picked second.
