DEMOREST, Ga. -- Covenant women's basketball fell at Piedmont on Wednesday evening, 75-37, at Cave Arena in Demorest.
The Scots (6-17, 5-9 CCS) had a rough day shooting the ball, hitting just nine of their 57 field goals, allowing the Lions (10-12, 7-6 CCS) to run away with the victory.
Violet Wright and
Emma Kaye Fuller led Covenant with seven points apiece, with Fuller scoring her seven in just 14 minutes.
Cair Canady had an excellent day defensively, grabbing six rebounds and swiping the ball six times, a career-high mark.
The first quarter was a strong start for Piedmont, who scored 20 unanswered in the first 8:09 of play to gain a massive early advantage. In the second quarter, the Scots' offense put together a solid stretch, scoring seven straight late, with
Ora Hall scoring four of those to gain some confidence going into the break.
Covenant kept up their strong play going into the third, going on an 8-0 run midway through the period.
Amanda Neff,
Hannah Eidson, and Fuller all contributed in that run.
In the fourth, however, the Lions caught fire again, and the Scots could not make a push to get back into it.
Lily Conkell led the scoring for Piedmont, dropping 11, but six players scored eight or more to create a balanced attack. Ava Hunter also secured 10 boards for the Lions.
