LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. --
Aubrianna Gerdes hit a career-best .556 as Covenant volleyball swept LaGrange, 3-0, at Barnes PE Center on Friday evening.
Gerdes led the Scots (16-2, 7-0 CCS) with 15 kills on 27 attacks, while
Avery Maiden added 10 kills on a .320 hitting percentage.
Cali Sandhoff (17) and
Evy Hammer (13) combined for 30 assists, while
Henley Gentry posted 17 digs.
After an early battle with the Panthers (10-8, 4-3 CCS) in the first set, Covenant surged with a 10-2 run, highlighted by a pair of
Gabby Sumrall kills. They cruised from there, withstanding a late LaGrange run to win the set, 25-16.
The Panthers battled back to knot set two at eight, but the Scots put together a 6-1 stretch midway through to go back up 14-9, getting a kill from
Kennedy Barber in that run.
Following a subsequent LaGrange run, the score was tied at 20, but Covenant responded again, running off five of the next six points, getting a two Gerdes kills and forcing an attack error to win the set, 25-21.
In set three, LaGrange fought back again, leading by as many as four early on. However, a 6-1 run gave Covenant the lead back, 17-14, thanks to two more kills from Gerdes. Another 6-0 run later put the win just two points away, as Sandhoff and Barber put the Scots on the brink.
Gerdes then fittingly shut the door with her 15th kill to take the set, 25-21, and the match.
Alex Krabs led the Panthers with 11 kills, while Julia Damico had 11 assists and Isabella Zentkovich had 13 digs.
