Men's Soccer Overcomes 2-0 Deficit to Draw Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- In a battle of former archrivals, Covenant men's soccer overcame a 2-0 second-half deficit to draw with Maryville, 2-2, at the Maryville College Soccer Complex on Wednesday evening.

Covenant (3-6-2) converted both of their shots on frame in the match, while keeper J.T. Gard saved six Maryville (3-3-4) shots.

Gard and the defense got to work early in the match, with Gard saving a pair of shots in the first 17 minutes. Neither team got off any successful attempts for the next 21:03, but then Maryville's Cameron Harp slipped a shot past Gard for a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute.

The rest of the half went by scoreless, but just 51 seconds into the second half, Ryan Buie notched a goal for Maryville on an assist from Dane Hammer to make it 2-0 with 44:09 to play.

Covenant did not let that 44:09 slip away from them.

In the 59th minute, Sam Conrad took the lead for most goals on the team with his third of the season, and then just 4:01 later, Henry Parker earned a chance on a pass from Conrad and converted to tie it up at two.

The defense did the work from there, as Gard saved three more shots, while Covenant could not find another opportunity to shoot one on net.

Eli Daniel, Noah Jones, an Carlton McClure played all 90 minutes on the back line, while Will Gallaher, Nate Selig Pineda, and Dane Hammer played all 90 for Maryville.
