Men's Soccer Falters Late Against Emory

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant men's soccer put together a pair of excellent stretches, but ultimately faltered late against Emory, losing 5-2 at Scotland Yard on Tuesday evening.

Ian Adams and Andrew Dillard notched goals for the Scots (3-7-2), with Henry Parker and Daniel Wallis recording assists. J.T. Tolson secured four saves in net, while Eli Daniel and Wallis played all 90 minutes.

The first 34 minutes of the match was beautiful soccer from both sides, with Tolson and the left goalpost holding off Emory's lone chances on net in that stretch. In the 35th minute, though, Ewen Robertson found space and scored to put the Eagles (10-1-2) ahead, and then Jake Breitegan added another in the 37th minute for a 2-0 lead.

That score would hold until the half, and then in the second half, Tolson made another pair of early stops, but Walker Stebbings notched Emory's third goal in the 61st minute to make it 3-0.

Just 1:09 later, however, the Scots took advantage of an opportunity, and Adams put one in off of Parker's cross to cut it down to 3-1. The goal was Adams' first of his career.

Both squads held serve for the next 16:49, but Covenant designed a fantastic throw-in chance, with Wallis feeding a wide open Dillard, who drifted right and drilled it home for his first career goal.

However, Emory turned it up again late, getting a goal from Julian Hee on a deflection and a penalty goal from Zachary Blacher to put the final score at 5-2.

Justin Buchwalter, Breitigan, and Jeremiah Cateau had assists for the Eagles, while keeper Sharan Dodwani saved one shot.
