MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Covenant volleyball took care of business on Tuesday evening, sweeping former CCS foe Maryville, 3-0, at the Cooper Athletic Center in Maryville.
Reigning CCS Player of the Week
Aubrianna Gerdes continued her strong last few matches with a team-best 12 kills, while
Cali Sandhoff posted a near triple-double with eight kills, 13 assists, and a team-high 12 digs.
Scarlett Martz and
Avery Maiden posted three blocks each defensively.
Kayley Shanfelt began the match with a solo block to score the first point, but Maryville (7-7), found a way to lead 10-7 midway through.Â
Then Covenant made their run.
A 10-2 stretch, which included two blocks from Maiden and Martz, pushed the lead out to 17-12, and then a final 8-1 run, which included two kills from Gerdes, closed the set in Covenant's favor, 25-14.
Covenant (15-2) kept up their strong play with an 11-2 run to open the second set, capped off by a
Carmen Harvey ace. After watching Maryville close the gap to 22-19,
Gabby Sumrall sent down two kills and the defense forced an attack error to take the set, 25-20.
In a more back-and-forth third set, the teams traded short runs before Covenant used a 6-1 run, including a pair of Gerdes kills, to go up 23-14. Maryville tried to get back in it late, but
Delaney Stirm finished the match with a kill to win, 25-19.
Addison Appleby led Maryville with 10 kills, while Megan Fairburn had 21 assists and Alana Barbarito posted 13 digs.
