MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Covenant volleyball continued their unbeaten CCS play with a 3-0 sweep of Huntingdon on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery.
Aubrianna Gerdes led the way in kills for the Scots (14-2, 6-0 CCS) with 12, while
Henley Gentry posted 22 digs and
Cali Sandhoff had 23 assists and seven aces.Â
After being tied 2-2 early in the first set, Covenant ripped off an 11-0 run, getting four aces from Sandhoff in that stretch. They later closed out the set on a pair of kills from Gerdes and one from Sandhoff to win the set, 25-9.
The Hawks (4-9, 2-4 CCS) battled back going up 12-9 midway through. However, an 8-1 run, which included two kills from
Avery Maiden, put the Scots back in front, 19-15. They held on from there, getting a final kill from
Kennedy Barber to close it out, 25-20.
A pair of
Gabby Sumrall kills put Covenant up 6-2 early in the third set, but the Scots watched Huntingdon battle back in it, as the teams traded rallies late to make the score tied at 22.Â
Covenant got the job done though, as a 3-1 stretch, capped by a Maiden kill, ended matters, 25-23.
Morgan Suggs led the Hawks with six kills, while Salome de Jesus had 13 digs.
