DECATUR, Ga. -- Covenant volleyball earned their third CCS season sweep of the campaign by taking down Agnes Scott, 3-0, at Woodruff Gym on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Scots (21-2, 10-0 CCS) have clinched the No. 1 seed in the CCS Tournament, earning the right to host all their matches at Barnes PE Center in a few weeks.Â
Aubrianna Gerdes paced in kills with nine, with
Cadie Weldon adding a career-best seven.
Hailey Landrum posted a season-best seven service aces, while
Evy Hammer added 20 assists to help out the offense. Defensively,
Henley Gentry had 11 digs, with
Gabby Sumrall notched three blocks.
After a 10-3 match-opening run, the Scots scored another 11 in a row, getting four kills from Gerdes in that span, to go up 21-4. A 4-0 run late, capped by a kill from Sumrall, would clinch the set, 25-5.
The Scotties (2-13, 0-8 CCS) took an early 3-2 lead in set two, however, Covenant answered back with seven in a row, and later, another 10 in a row, to go up 19-6. A final 5-0 run, headlined by three aces by Landrum, gave set two to the Scots, 25-8.
In the third set, Covenant used a 7-0 run to go up 14-3 midway through, thanks in part to a pair of aces from
Sarah Jennings. Later, a 6-0 run closed the deal, as Landrum earned four aces in the final five points to win the set, 25-6, and the match.
Madison Stidum and Janae Erwing led Agnes Scott with three kills apiece, with Ja'Rai Flynn adding nine digs defensively.
