Men's Soccer Prevails Behind Tenacious Defense

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- Covenant men's soccer used a tenacious defense and a pair of goals to prevail over LaGrange, 2-0, at Panther Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Scots (4-7-2, 2-0-1 CCS) move into first place in the CCS standings, while the Panthers drop to 6-6-1 (1-2-1 CCS) and sit fourth.

Daniel Wallis (13') and Jackson Bostrom (90') notched goals in this one, with Henry Parker adding an assist. Defensively, J.T. Tolson made two saves in net, while the back line of Sean Freace, Eli Daniel, and Wallis played all 90 minutes.

After an initial almost 13 minutes of shotless soccer, a corner kick from Parker found the 6'3" Wallis, who punched it in to give Covenant the early 1-0 advantage. Both teams were relatively quiet the remainder of the half, with Parker and Brian Burke firing shots, both of which were saved, while the Scots defense held LaGrange to just one errant shot.

Tolson had to get to work early in the second half, however, as the Panthers' Baptista Amofa found a chance on net, but Tolson made the stop, and got some help from the left post in the 63rd minute as well to keep his shutout in tact.

Late in the match, it got chippy, as LaGrange picked up three yellow cards, with the Scots also being assigned one. The defense did not falter, though, as Tolson made his second save in the 77th minute. In the 90th minute, with just seconds remaining, Bostrom tallied his third goal of the season to put the match away with a 2-0 score.

Braeden Hayes made three saves for the Panthers, while Dylan DePriest, Jed Anderson, and Nick Griner played all 90 minutes.
