LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant women's basketball ran up against a smothering Asbury defense on Friday evening, falling 89-49 at Barnes PE Center.
Amanda Neff led the way in scoring for the Scots (5-14, 4-6 CCS) with 15, while adding a team-high seven boards and three steals.
Chloe Bertrand contributed 10 points and six boards of her own.
The game got off to a rough start for Covenant, as the Eagles (9-8, 7-1 CCS) opened the game with a 10-0 stretch, and controlling matters for the remainder of the period. However, the Scots were able to score four in a row at the end of the period to show some signs of life.
After Asbury extended their lead to 24 in the second, Covenant put together a response, going on a 12-3 run, their best stretch to that point. Neff and
Jada Sanders did the scoring during that run, with Neff tallying seven and Sanders five.
The Scots kept fighting in the third, using a three from Neff and seven points from Bertrand to try and stay in it.
That would be the last gasp for Covenant, though, as a host of second half turnovers prevented another potential run.
Ora Hall was a bright spot in the fourth quarter, however, dropping seven late points.
The Eagles were paced by Emily Sizemore, who had 24 points, while Ma'Kiya West added 17 and nine boards.
