Women's Basketball's Falls Late at Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Covenant women's basketball's comeback effort came up just short on Saturday afternoon as they fell to Huntingdon, 53-50, at Roland Arena in Montgomery.

Violet Wright paced the Scots with 12 points and 10 boards, while Emma Kaye Fuller (11) and Jada Sanders (10) also added double-figure scoring.

After watching the Hawks drop 19 consecutive points to take a 13-point advantage early in the second quarter, Covenant aimed to climb back into it.

A 6-0 Scots run brought it down to seven, and then Hannah Eidson's and-1 with 54 seconds on the clock made it a four point game.

In the third, Covenant got even closer, with Chloe Bertrand's back-to-back layups cutting it to two with 2:37 remaining in the period. Sanders would add a bucket of her own with just eight seconds left in the third to make it a one point game.

The Scots kept it going into the fourth quarter, with Wright giving Covenant their first lead with a layup. Sanders tacked on with another basket to extend it to three.

However, Huntingdon would counter with a 10-2 run of their own to go back up by five. While Fuller would bring it back to one with 35 seconds remaining with a triple, the Hawks used free throws and timely offensive rebounds to hold on late.

Makayla Ford scored 15 to lead Huntingdon in scoring, while Charity Shaw contributed 10 boards.
