WILMORE, Ky. -- Covenant women's basketball was upended by CCS foe Asbury, 68-50, at the Luce Center in Wilmore on Tuesday evening.
Violet Wright again paced the Scots (1-11, 0-3 CCS) in scoring with 12, recording her 10th double-figure output of the season.
Emma Kaye Fuller and
Amanda Neff added nine apiece, while
Chloe Bertrand contributed eight points and a team-best eight rebounds.
After Asbury (6-7, 4-0 CCS) took a six point lead at the end of the first quarter, the Scots rallied back, using a 7-2 run to open the second quarter, and took their first lead since the 4:55 mark of the first quarter with
Anna Everett's four straight points.
The two teams traded leads throughout the remainder of the period, with the Eagles holding a one-point advantage at the break.
That would be as close as things would get, however, as Asbury outscored Covenant 17-5 in the third quarter, cruising from there to get the win.
The Scots shot just 6-for-29 in the second half (20.7 percent), while the Eagles hit 15 of their 34 second-half shots (44.1 percent), ultimately leading to Asbury's ability to pull away.
Emily Sizemore dropped 21 for the Eagles to lead all scorers while adding six steals, and Anna Hellums filled the stat sheet for Asbury, scoring 10, grabbing eight boards, swiping the ball twice, and blocking three shots.
