MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Covenant men's basketball was tripped up by Huntingdon in Montgomery on Saturday evening, falling 98-80 at Roland Arena.
Pierce Smith had 15 points and five blocks, while
Korbin Long added 12 and four assists to lead the Scots.Â
After a low-scoring first 7:33 of play, both teams picked it up offensively, but neither was able to pull away.Â
Smith would score four straight at one point to bring the deficit down to two, and then Long added a layup of his own to keep it there.
However, the Hawks countered with a run, leading by as many as nine with 10:29 to go in the half.
The Scots were able to retort, tying it up late in the half, with Long draining a three to knot it up at 34. The Hawks had one more first half run in them, though, as they took a 10-point lead at the break.
Covenant did their best to prevent the game from getting away from them early in the second half, with Smith scoring two baskets and
Logan Patterson adding a three to make it an eight-point game.
It was all Huntingdon from there though, as the Scots could not put together another successful sequence of buckets.
Tyler Mallory led all scorers with 23 points and Andersen Madyun added 16 points and seven boards.
