LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant women's basketball endured a tough shooting game on Tuesday evening, falling to Maryville 60-29 at Barnes PE Center.
Covenant (4-13, 3-5 CCS) shot just 8-for-58 from the field, enabling Maryville (8-7, 5-3 CCS) to jump out to a big lead early.Â
After
Chloe Bertrand scored the first basket of the game for the Scots, the Scots of Maryville countered with an 11-0 run, using that stretch to lead 20-7 at the end of the first.
After Maryville added further to their lead in the second quarter, Covenant looked to get a jolt of energy going into the break, and got just that, as
Ora Hall made a buzzer-beating layup.
Covenant was unable to capitalize on that momentum initially, but they were able to cobble together an 8-1 run midway through the period, with
Violet Wright and
Cair Canady scoring six of those eight.
That would be the Scots' last gasp though, as Maryville cruised in the fourth quarter to win the game handily.
Bertrand led Covenant with nine points, while Wright added six points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and a pair of steals.
Maryville's Ella Haney had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead their charge.
