Dusek and Patterson Score 21 Apiece to Help Men's Basketball Upend Welch

GALLATIN, Tenn. -- Luuk Dusek and Logan Patterson dropped 21 apiece to help Covenant men's basketball upend Welch on the road on Saturday, 102-87.

Dusek in particular had an efficient day from the field, going 7-of-9, all from distance, while adding a pair of rebounds and a steal. Patterson hit four of his nine three point attempts and added three steals for the Scots (4-10).

Covenant was able to get going early, scoring 11 of the first 15 points of the game. Dusek, Patterson, Pierce Smith, and Jake Stephens all contributed buckets in this stretch.

The Flames (5-15) attempted a comeback after that, and were able to close the deficit to four with 10:30 to go in the half.

However, Ethan Parker scored five of the Scots' subsequent seven unanswered points, helping extend the lead back to 11. A separate 9-0 run later in the half, capped by a Fisher Mitchell three, got the lead as high as 16, which held until the break.

At the opening of the second half, Covenant happily traded threes for the Welch twos to nudge the lead up to 18. Bolton Born then got in the action, draining two consecutive attempts from downtown to give the Scots a 20-point lead.

Covenant then thwarted the rest of the Flames' attempts at a comeback, maintaining a commanding advantage the rest of the way.

Draven Smith led Welch with 22 points, while Tony Gaines collected 17 points and 10 rebounds.
