DECATUR, Ga. -- Covenant women's basketball forced 34 turnovers, including collecting 22 steals, in a 62-29 win over Agnes Scott on Tuesday evening.
Four Scots (3-11, 2-3 CCS) recorded at least three steals, led by
Cair Canady, who notched six.
Chloe Bertrand scored 20-plus for the second straight contest, dropping 22 points to lead all scorers.
Covenant was off and running early in the game, scoring the first 10 points. Canady,
Amanda Neff, and
Hannah Eidson all recorded steals in this stretch to set the tone defensively, with
Emma Kaye Fuller and Bertrand pocketing the points.
The Scotties (2-13, 1-5 CCS) would not go away, however, as they scored eight unanswered to conclude the first quarter and later tied things up at 12 with 7:35 to go in the second.
The Scots answered right back.
A 15-0 run, which included four steals, smothered Agnes Scott's momentum. Canady's hustle tip-in got things rolling, and then
Anna Everett,
Jada Sanders, Bertrand, and Fuller all scored baskets off of turnovers to add to the onslaught.
The third quarter was much like the second, as a 27-10 third quarter advantage compounded the lead further.
Karrie Gaines and Everett were among the highlights of this stretch, draining three of the Scots' four triples in the period.
Covenant coasted from there, but
Ora Hall and
Trinity Smith kept the energy flowing, hitting the three Scots' field goals in that period.
Anissa Brailsford had a near double-double for the Scotties, leading them in points (eight) and rebounds (nine).
