Late Goal Secures Draw for Scots at No. 4 Generals

LEXINGTON, Va. - Covenant faced a strong opponent on the road Friday night, playing at No. 4 Washington and Lee. The Scots were looking for a win over the Generals for the second year in a row, but settled for a hard-fought draw against the national powerhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Covenant keeper Eli Honeycutt was busy early on, making three saves in the first 15 minutes of the match. 
  • In the final 15 minutes of the half, Covenant started to get some rhythm as it had four shots, none of which were on target. 
  • At the half, Covenant was outshot 8-5.
  • In the 62nd minute, the Generals took the lead as Jack Travis assisted Sami Seife who smashed home a goal just inside the right post. 
  • Washington and Lee continued to initiate pressure, forcing Honeycutt into three more saves in the next nine minutes. 
  • Jackson Bostrom scored from distance to tie the match in the 82nd minute for the Scots as Henry Parker and Sam Conrad were credited with the assists. 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant moves to 1-1-1 all-time against Washington and Lee. 
  • The Generals outshot the Scots 22-11 and had a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. 
  • Honeycutt tallied a career-high nine saves in the draw. 
  • Washington and Lee had five yellow cards while Covenant was assessed just one. 
  • The Generals had eight corner kicks while the Scots had two. 

UP NEXT: The Scots travel two hours down the road to Hampden-Sydney for a match tomorrow at 2 p.m.
