Final: Covenant 2, Oglethorpe 1
Records: Covenant (3-3-2), Oglethorpe (4-4-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- Jonathan Welsh and Henry Parker each had threatening shots just missing the post in the first 25 minutes for Covenant.Â
- Both teams had spells of possession throughout the first half, but neither could find the right pass late to get a goal. Â
- At the break, both teams had recorded 10 shots, many of them blocked, or off target.Â
- In the 74th minute, the match changed after a Covenant player was fouled in the box, giving the home team a penalty kick with a chance to break the deadlock.Â
- Whitt Tisdale took the penalty kick and had his original shot saved, but the senior followed it up on the rebound and blasted the ball into the back of the net.Â
- At the 81-minute mark, Welsh scored with a low-bullet to the left side of the goal from outside the box to make it 2-0. Henry Parker was key in the build up and earned the assist.Â
- Oglethorpe did not back down, scoring off a corner kick in the 88th minute to cut the lead back to one goal. Nick Krull had the goal while Christian Watson tallied the assist.Â
- With less than a minute remaining, Welsh was sent off with a red card for a hard foul near the Oglethorpe bench.Â
- In the remaining time playing up a man, the Stormy Petrels, off another corner kick, had a shot on target, however a Covenant defender cleared the ball off the goal line.Â
