10-Man Scots Fall To Vikings

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant had its final tuneup before Homecoming on Saturday as it took on in-state rival, Berry. The Scots scored the opening goal, however a red card for Covenant in the first half proved costly as Berry came roaring back to earn a 4-1 win.

Final: Covenant 1, Berry 4
Records: Covenant (2-3-2), Berry (3-1-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • At the 13-minute mark, Bostrom scored what turned out to be Covenant's lone goal, tapping in a rebound off a shot from Jonathan Welsh that crashed off the crossbar.
  • Just over three minutes later, a long cross from Parker Pollay played in Alex Guzman who blasted a shot in the back of the net to tie the match for Berry.
  • In the 22nd minute, Covenant went down to 10-men as Fox Landgren was assessed a red card for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
  • Berry made it 2-1 shortly afterwards as a quick throw-in from Pollay found Guzman for his second goal.
  • Henry Strawbridge, after just coming into the match, had a good headed effort for the Scots, but the Vikings' keeper was true to it.
  • At the 40-minute mark, Berry scored a third goal as Daniel Osho smashed in a shot off a through ball on the right side by Timothy Ratokhin.
  • At the intermission, Berry had outshot Covenant 12-6.
  • Covenant took four shots in the first 30 minutes of the second half, but were unable to put any on target.
  • The Vikings scored the final goal of the match in the 81st minute as Timothy Ratokhin found the end of a deflected shot from Tyler Whitaker.
  • Covenant nearly had a consolation goal in the 88th minute as Welsh struck the woodwork with a shot from outside the box for the second time in the match.

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 17-32-6 all-time against Berry.
  • Berry outshot Covenant 17-13 and had an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Both teams committed six fouls.
