Scots End Homestand With Historic Win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant went down 5-0 in the first inning of Wednesday's battle with Eastern Mennonite. The rough start didn't stop the Scots from rattling off 17 unanswered runs to earn the win and move to 9-1 for the first time in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Behind five hits, the Royals scored five runs in the top of the first inning. 
  • In the fourth inning, Covenant scored its first run on a wild pitch as Zeke Gilbert came home from third base. 
  • Later in the at bat, Hudson Couch drove in another run with a hard hit ball at the first baseman. 
  • The Scots scored their third and fourth runs of the game in the fourth inning as well, highlighted by an RBI single to left field by William Blosser. 
  • RHP Jake Schock kept putting up zeros in relief as the Scots got back in the game. 
  • Covenant took the lead in the fifth inning, thanks to a two-run home run to left field by Ben Johnson.
  • Sam Cecil made it 7-5 later in the frame with an RBI groundout that scored Couch. 
  • Capped off by a run-rule walk off three-run home run by Josh McCaskill, Covenant scored 10 runs in the seventh inning. 
  • McCaskill also had an RBI single earlier in the inning. Other key hits in the seventh inning included 2-RBI singles from Gilbert and Ryan MacLellan.

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 1-0 all-time against Eastern Mennonite. 
  • Schock (6.1 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) picked up the win in relief after an impressive outing. 
  • Johnson (3-for-4, 4 R, 2 RBI) led the Covenant offensive attack in the win. 
  • Couch, MacLellan, McCaskill, and Blosser each had two hits. 
  • Covenant outhit EMU 12-8.
  • With a 9-1 start, Covenant has set the new program record for best 10-game start in school history. 

UP NEXT: Covenant travels to Emory on Friday afternoon for its first away game of the season.
