LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant continued the challenging part of its schedule, welcoming Piedmont to campus, who came into the game 6-0 in CCS play. One big inning happened for the Lions offensively in each game, allowing them to earn the doubleheader sweep.Â
Game 1 Final: Covenant 2, Piedmont 10
Records: Covenant (9-18, 0-5 CCS), Piedmont (18-9, 7-0 CCS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lions jumped on the Scots in the first inning with three runs behind four hits and one defensive error.Â
- Piedmont made it 4-0 in the third inning using an RBI single to right field.Â
- Piedmont pitcher Megan Steinmeyer kept Covenant hitless through the first four innings.
- An RBI single followed by an RBI triple in the fifth inning extended Piedmont's lead to 6-0.Â
- Olivia Stefl reached home plate in the bottom of the frame for Covenant's first run thanks to an infield error by Piedmont.Â
- The Lions responded in the sixth inning with four runs highlighted by a 3-RBI double.
- Another Piedmont error allowed Covenant to score one run in the sixth inning.
GAME NOTES:
- Charley Clark (4 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) and Madison Bowden (2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1K) pitched for the Scots.Â
- Stefl (2-for-3, 1 R) tallied two hits to lead the Covenant offense.Â
- Piedmont outhit Covenant 13-4.
- The Lions had three errors while the Scots had two.Â
Game 2 Final: Covenant 0, Piedmont 11
Records: Covenant (9-19, 0-6 CCS), Piedmont (19-9, 8-0 CCS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Piedmont scored the first run of the game in the first inning with an RBI single to right field.Â
- Covenant reached its first two runners on base in the bottom of the frame, but three retired batters in a row afterwards ended the threat.Â
- Covenant pitcher Charley Clark kept Piedmont off the board the next two innings.
- The Lions exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning, which included a three-run inside-the-park home run to right field by Mandi Peretti.
- Covenant had three errors during the big inning, giving Piedmont a few extra bases.Â
- The Scots had a single in each of the fourth and fifth innings, but were not able to convert any of those hits into runs.Â
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 2-34 all-time against Piedmont.Â
- Lauren Edgar (5 IP, 15 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) was in the circle for the Scots.Â
- Gracie Lacle (1-for-2), Kathleen Carpenter (1-for-2), Haley Russell (1-for-2), and Cassidi Phillips (1-for-2) each had a hit for Covenant.Â
- Piedmont outhit Covenant 15-4.
- The Scots committed four errors while the Lions had one.Â
