No. 9 Huntingdon's Strong Pitching Gives Covenant Two Losses

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Covenant hit the road to take on No. 9 Huntingdon, looking to pull off an upset. Huntingdon's pitching was dominant all day as it defeated Covenant in both games of the doubleheader. 

Game 1 Final: Covenant 0, No. 9 Huntingdon 8
Records: Covenant (9-20, 0-7 CCS), No. 9 Huntingdon (23-3, 6-1 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Huntingdon jumped ahead in the first inning with five runs, using five hits, one walk, and one Covenant error to do so.
  • Covenant's best chance to score came in the third inning as it had runners on first and second base before a strikeout ended the threat.
  • Lauren Edgar kept the Hawks off the scoreboard for the next three innings.
  • A 2-RBI double followed by an RBI triple for the Hawks in the fifth inning made it 8-0 and ended the game.

GAME NOTES:

  • Edgar (4.1 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 1 HBP) took the loss in the circle, pitching the full duration of the game.
  • The Scots were outhit 11-1.
  • Isabella Duran had Covenant's lone hit.
  • Covenant committed two errors while Huntingdon had none.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Charley Clark pitched around some base runners in the first two innings for the Scots as the score remained 0-0.
  • A 2-RBI double by Huntingdon in the third inning put it in the lead.
  • Huntingdon sent 10 batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored four runs to move up 6-0.
  • A two-run home run in the sixth inning by Miranda Treadway put the mercy rule in effect.

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 11-24 all-time against Huntingdon. 
  • Clark (5 IP, 10 H , 8 R, 6 ER, 1 K, 1 HBP) pitched the whole game for the Scots.
  • The Scots were held hitless while the Hawks had 10 hits.
  • Covenant committed four errors while Huntingdon had none.
