NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Covenant had to wait an extra day because of rain to begin play at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Break Classic. When it was time to hit the diamond, the Scots played competitively against an NCAA Division II school before winning in walk-off fashion in game two over Keystone College.Â
Game 1 Final: Covenant 1, West Virginia State 6
Records: Covenant (8-11), West Virginia State (7-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With a "little-league home run" that scored two runs in the first inning, the Yellow Jackets jumped ahead of the Scots.Â
- Covenant responded in the second inning as Isabella Duran drove in Olivia Stefl with an RBI single up the middle.Â
- Covenant had the bases-loaded in the third inning with no outs, however a double-play and a lineout prevented the Scots from adding anymore runs.Â
- WVSU took a 4-1 lead in the third inning thanks to a 2-RBI single to center field.
- The Yellow Jackets kept pushing on in the fourth inning with RBI hits on consecutive plays to move ahead 6-1.Â
- The Scots had runners on second and third base in the sixth inning looking to cut into the Yellow Jackets lead, however a groundout ended the frame.Â
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 0-1 all-time against West Virginia State.Â
- Charley Clark (6 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 K) pitched the whole game for the Scots.Â
- Madison Taylor (2-for-3, 1 BB), Helena Nagy (2-for-3, 1 BB), and Duran (2-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 BB) each had two hits to lead the Covenant offense.
- WVSU outhit Covenant 9-8.
Game 2 Final (8 innings): Covenant 6, Keystone 5

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Covenant went ahead in the first inning as Haley Russell delivered an RBI single down the right field line that brought in Taylor.Â
- The Scots made it 2-0 in the second inning as Cassidi Phillips came through with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field that scored Stefl.Â
- Keystone eventually got some offense going, scoring three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. Two of the runs were unearned.Â
- In the fifth inning, Covenant tied the score at three as Nagy hit an RBI single to center field which brought home Duran.Â
- Keystone jumped ahead in the sixth inning as a leadoff triple would lead to another run.Â
- RBI singles in the bottom of the frame by Gracie Lacle and Taylor put Covenant back in front again and three outs away from a win.Â
- The Giants rallied again in the seventh inning as an RBI sacrifice fly to center field tied the game and sent it to extra innings.Â
- Keystone was not able to score a runner that was placed on second base to begin the eighth inning as Lauren Edgar retired three of the four batters she faced.Â
- Duran came through with the winning hit, an RBI single to left field that scored Cailey Barnett from third base for the win.Â
GAME NOTES:Â
- Covenant moves to 1-0 all-time against Keystone.
- Edgar (8 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) picked up the win for the Scots, pitching all eight innings.Â
- Duran (3-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI), including her walk-off hit, led the Scots with three hits.Â
- Taylor (2-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI), Nagy (2-for-4, 1 RBI), and Lacle (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) also had strong performances at the plate.Â
- Covenant had 12 hits while Keystone had 11.Â
- The Giants committed three errors while the Scots had one.Â
