No. 15 Berry Ends Covenant's Win Streak

MT. BERRY, Ga. - Coming in on a four-game win streak, Covenant traveled to No. 15 Berry for its biggest challenge yet this season. The Vikings proved their national ranking status as they sent the Scots home with two losses.

Game 1 Final: Covenant 2, No. 15 Berry 8
Records: Covenant (4-7), No. 15 Berry (8-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Vikings used four hits in the first inning to score three runs.
  • Helena Nagy and Gracie Lacle each scored on an infield throwing error in the third inning for Covenant's lone two runs of the game. 
  • A pair of RBI doubles with a 2-RBI single in between for Berry in the third inning put it up 7-2.
  • Covenant put a runner on second base in the fifth inning, but a strikeout ended the threat. 
  • An infield error gave Berry its final run in the sixth inning. 
  • The Scots had runners on second and third base in the seventh inning, but once again were not able to bring home any runs. 

GAME NOTES:

  • Charley Clark (6 IP, 12 H, 8 ER, 3 K) went the distance in the circle for Covenant. 
  • Berry outhit Covenant 12-6.
  • The Scots committed three errors while the Vikings had two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Covenant was retired in order in the first two innings.
  • Berry sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning and scored nine runs on nine hits. 
  • An RBI triple and an RBI single for the Vikings in the third inning made it 11-0. 
  • Covenant's best chance to score came in the fourth inning as it had two runners on, but it couldn't get the timely hit. 

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 5-29 all-time against Berry.
  • The Scots were outhit 14-1.

UP NEXT: Covenant hosts Buena Vista on Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
