LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - It was a special day at the ballpark as Coach Bill Higley earned his first two wins as Head Coach as Covenant swept a doubleheader over Sewanee.Â
Game 1 Final: Covenant 3, Sewanee 1
Records: Covenant (1-6), Sewanee (3-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both pitchers were dealing through the first two innings as the scorer remained tied at zero.Â
- The Tigers jumped ahead 1-0 in the third inning with an RBI single up the middle, for what would be their lone run they would score off of Covenant pitcher Lauren Edgar.Â
- Back-to-back RBI singles from Isabella Duran and Helena Nagy made it 2-1 Covenant in the fifth inning.Â
- The next batter was Ashlyn Gaines as she drove in a run on an RBI fielder's choice to make it 3-1.Â
- Sewanee managed just one base runner in the final two innings in its attempt to mount a comeback.Â
GAME NOTES:
- Edgar (7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3 K) pitched the whole game for the Scots, picking up the first win of her sophomore season.Â
- Nagy's hit in the fifth inning was the 100th of her career.
- Gracie Lacle (2-for-4, 1 R) led the Scots offense with two hits.Â
- Covenant outhit Sewanee 7-5.
- Sewanee had three errors while Covenant had none.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Tigers jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning using an RBI sacrifice fly to right field.Â
- Gaines delivered an RBI single up the middle that scored Nagy in the first inning to tie the game.Â
- Later in the frame, Kathleen Carpenter hit a 2-RBI single to right field to put Covenant in front 3-1.Â
- Nagy continued her strong day in the second inning driving in Madison Taylor with an RBI single to center field to make it 4-1.Â
- The Scots added another run in the third inning as a bloop RBI single down the third base line by Madison Bowden scored Olivia Stefl.Â
- Sewanee cut into the lead in the fourth inning with an RBI triple and an RBI infield single.Â
- Gaines drove in another run in the fourth inning, with an RBI double to right-center field to put the Scots up 6-3.
- Later in the frame, Cailey Barnett tried to score from second on a single to center field by Carpenter, but was thrown out at the plate to end the threat.Â
- Sewanee scored two runs in the fifth inning and had the tying run on third base, but consecutive strikeouts by Charley Clark ended the frame.Â
- The Scots added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Stefl brought home Gaines with an RBI single to left field.Â
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 21-4 all-time against Sewanee.
- Clark (7 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 7 K) earned the win for the Scots in the circle, going all seven innings for the first time in her career.Â
- Covenant had six players with two or more hits: Gaines (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R), Lacle (2-for-4), Nagy (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 R), Haley Russell (2-for-4, 1 R), Stefl (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 R), and Carpenter (2-for-4, 2 RBI).
- Covenant had a season-high 17 hits in the win.Â
