LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - After snow came through campus earlier this week, Covenant's field was ready to go as the sun shined for game one of the three-game set between Covenant and The College of Wooster. The Scots jumped on the Fighting Scots early on before relying on strong pitching to win the first ever meeting between the two programs.Â
Final: Covenant 4, Wooster 3
Records: Covenant (3-1), Wooster (1-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- An infield throwing error with two outs scored two runs for the Scots in the first inning. Both Zeke Gilbert and Daniel Bell came around the bases.Â
- The next batter was William Blosser who torched an RBI double to left field to give Covenant a 3-0 lead.Â
- Wooster got on the board in the fourth inning as an RBI single to right center plated a run.Â
- The Fighting Scotties had a chance to score more in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and two outs, but a strikeout from RHP Bryce Bollinger ended the threat.Â
- Wooster's first two batters were retired in the fifth inning, but a single followed by an RBI triple to right field made it 3-2.Â
- Brynn Langley, who had the RBI triple, came into score shortly after to tie the game as a result of a wild pitch.Â
- Defending CCS Rookie of the Week, Roby McLarnon delivered what turned out to be the winning hit in the fifth inning with an RBI bloop-single to center field that scored Zeke Gilbert.
- Wooster's best chance to tie the game came in the eighth inning with runners at the corners and two outs, however RHP Christian Vander Veen recorded a fly out to end the frame.Â
- Vander Veen retired the side in order with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.Â
