WILMORE, Ky. - Covenant had a chance to clinch a home conference tournament game on Thursday night on the road at Asbury. The Eagles, who had the same motive, protected their home court and cruised to a 92-69 win.Ā

FIRST HALF:
- A pair of triples by Adam Deininger and Luuk Dusek got Covenant started on the right foot with an 8-2 lead.Ā
- The Eagles worked their way back before three triples for themselves within two minutes of each other put them ahead 18-11.Ā
- At the 11:28 mark, Asbury's lead reached double digits at 24-14 with an inside basket.Ā
- A couple of inside baskets from Pierce Smith and Logan Patterson for the Scots cut the lead back to six points at 27-21.Ā
- Asbury scored the next eight points to move ahead 35-21.
- Derrius Teagle and Kaleb Lofton each made a shot from deep to cut into the lead, making it 37-27.Ā
- Once again, Asbury went on a run, this one a 7-0 run to put its lead 44-27.Ā
- The two teams traded baskets and defensive stops for the final three minutes as Asbury led 49-34 at the break.Ā
SECOND HALF:
- A 3-pointer from Deininger and a layup by Jake Stephens got Covenant started on the right foot inside the opening two minutes.Ā
- With Covenant trailing by just 11 points, it then went scoreless for over two minutes allowing Asbury to jump ahead 60-43.Ā
- At the 9:02 marker the Asbury lead reached 20 points at 72-52 after a pair of made free throws.
- After a 7-0 run for the Eagles they now were in complete control with a 27-point lead.Ā
- The closest Covenant would get the rest of the night was 21 points which came after an old-fashioned 3-point play from Dusek with 4:13 remaining.Ā
- Zach Wescher scored the final three points of the game, all coming at the free throw line.Ā
GAME NOTES:Ā
- Covenant moves to 2-6 all-time against Asbury.
- Dusek led the Scots in scoring with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting.Ā
- Scott Shepherd had a game-high 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting for Asbury.Ā
- Covenant was 30.9% (21-68) from the field and 23.5% (8-34) from behind the 3-point line while Asbury was 50% (35-70) and 23.5% (4-17) in the same categories.Ā
- Asbury controlled the glass, winning the rebound battle 47-32.Ā
- Depending on results this weekend, Covenant will either be the No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the CCS Tournament.Ā
- 69 points is a season-low for the Scots.Ā
