LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - For its first doubleheader of the season, Covenant took care of business in the early game against Greenville. In game two of the day and game three of the series, the Scots allowed the Panthers to hang around too long before falling 6-5 eliminating any hopes of a weekend sweep.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Josh McCaskill put Covenant in front in the second inning with a 2-RBI double to left field that scored Elliott Eastin and Hudson Couch.Â
- Later in the frame, Cole Akins made it 3-0 with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field that scored McCaskill.Â
- The Panthers got their lead-off runner on in the third inning, before Couch caught that runner trying to steal second base.
- In the third inning, Sam Cecil blasted an RBI double to right field which brought home Zeke Gilbert.Â
- Yielded by four hits and two defensive errors by the Panthers, the Scots scored five runs in the fifth inning to put them in front 9-0.Â
- Greenville got on the board in the sixth inning with two runs, one of which was unearned.Â
- The Panthers scored again in the seventh inning, scoring on a throwing error.Â
GAME NOTES:
- RHP Scotty Smith (5 IP, 3 H, 4 K) was dominant for the Scots earning the win on the mound. He allowed just three base runners in five innings.Â
- RHP Christian Vander Veen (2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) made his first career college appearance in relief of Smith.Â
- Cecil (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 R) had his second three-hit game in a row to begin the season.Â
- Eastin (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 R) and McCaskill (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 1 R) each had two hits for the Scots.Â
- The Scots outhit the Panthers 9-5.
- Greenville committed four errors while Covenant had two.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the second inning, Akins drove in Couch, who led off the inning with a single, on an RBI groundout to third base.Â
- Zeke Gilbert delivered an RBI double to left-center field in the third inning that scored Roby McClarnon to make it 2-0, Scots.Â
- An RBI double followed by a bases-loaded walk later in the frame for Greenville tied the game in the fourth inning.Â
- Covenant immediately responded using RBI singles from Akins and McClarnon in their next at-bats to make it 4-2.Â
- In the sixth inning a RBI single immediately followed by a 2-RBI triple to right field put Greenville ahead for the first time all weekend.
- Cecil tied the game at five in the seventh inning with an RBI single down the left-field line that brought in McClarnon.Â
- With the bases-loaded and one out in the eighth inning, Greenville scratched across what would be the winning run on an RBI groundout to first base.Â
- Covenant threatened in the bottom of the frame with runners at the corners and one out, however a perfectly executed 4-6-3 double play by Greenville ended the inning. Â
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 5-1 all-time against Greenville.Â
- RHP Jonathan Glover (4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 1 BB) made his first career start on the mound for Covenant.Â
- Despite taking the loss, RHP Jake Schock (3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) had a solid outing late in the game.Â
- McClarnon (3-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 R) impressed in just his third career game in college with three hits.Â
- Benjamin Johnson (2-for-3, 1 R) and Cecil (2-for-5, 1 RBI) each had two hits.Â
- Both squads tallied 11 hits for the game.Â
