Scots Defense Shuts Down Vikings

MT. BERRY, Ga. - Before the Scots could enjoy the start of Homecoming weekend, they had to take care of business on the road at Berry. With the help of a defiant Covenant defense, the boys in blue held strong to earn the shutout and leave town with a win.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Kade Theunissen had Covenant's first attempt on goal in the 16th minute that was saved at the bottom left of the goal. 
  • Berry finished the half threatening as it had four shot attempts in the final five minutes of the half, two of which forced saves. 
  • At the intermission, the Vikings had outshot the Scots 11-3.
  • In the 51st minute, Covenant got what turned out to be the deciding goal as Tyler Johnson headed in a cross from Eric Sonnenschein.
  • The Vikings had the next shot on goal that was saved at the bottom left of the goal by Eli Honeycutt in the 73rd minute. 
  • Covenant came back down the field the next minute and had an attempt on goal of its own, this one by Ty Morgan in the bottom center.  
  • Berry had two corner kicks in the final 10 minutes, but couldn't get past the Covenant defense to earn an equalizer. 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant moves to 17-31-6 all-time against Berry.
  • The Vikings outshot the Scots 17-8 and had a higher shots on goal count at 6-4.
  • Honeycutt tallied five saves in goal. 
  • Covenant had the higher foul count 11-8.

UP NEXT: The Scots take on Emory tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Scotland Yard on Homecoming.
