Softball Drops Two Games to No. 11 Huntingdon

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Scots hosted the Huntingdon Hawks on Saturday in search of going into the day's double header strong. The Hawks had some hot bats in both games that led to them sweeping the Scots on the day.

Game 1 Final: Covenant 5, Huntingdon 21
Records: Covenant (3-20, 0-7 CCS), Huntingdon (23-4, 6-1 CCS) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Hawks went on a tear in the top of the first. The Scots committed two errors in the first two pitches. This first inning set the precedent for the rest of the game.
  • Every bat on the Hawks roster was hitting. J. Holman, B. Murphy, and L. Watts led the way for the team in their victory. 
  • Covenant broke A. Roberts' perfect game in the bottom of the fourth as Bailey Johnson singled to left field. 

GAME NOTES:

  • There were a plethora of Covenant pitchers in play: T. Murdock, 1.5 IP, V. Baxter 0.2 IP, and M. Kirby, 2.2 IP
  • Roberts picks up the win for the Hawks and moves to 12-3 for her season. Murdock moves to 1-5 on the year.

Game 2 Final: Covenant 1, Huntingdon 10
Records: Covenant (3-21, 0-8 CCS), No. 11 Huntingdon (24-4, 7-1 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • In the first inning, B. Murphy singled to Left which led to an RBI of Stefankie running into home.
  • The second and third, the Hawks were kept more quiet than the previous game with just a few runs scored each inning. However, in the fourth, the gates opened for the hawks as they scored six runs in the fourth.
  • The Scots scored their only run on the game in the fourth with Hacker's bat which led to an RBI.

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 11-22 all-time against Huntingdon.
  • J. Holman hit a three-run home run in the top of the fourth.
  • M. Bowden picks up the loss to move to 0-4 on her season.

UP NEXT: Covenant travels to Maryville on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
