MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Scots began their conference schedule with a doubleheader at Huntingdon. Dominant pitching led to a win in game one before Covenant was outmatched in game two.
Game 1 Final: Covenant 6, Huntingdon 0
Records: Covenant (8-11 1-0 CCS), Huntingdon (9-8, 0-1 CCS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kenny Mills gave the Scots the lead in the third inning via a RBI double that scored Cody Gibson.Â
- Josh McCaskill extended Covenant's lead in the fourth inning to 3-0 after poking a 2-RBI single to right field.Â
- In the fifth inning, Mills picked up his second RBI of the game with a single to left field that scored Kolby Kimberly.
- Harrison Adelgren kept the Scots' offensive momentum going in the sixth inning with a RBI single to left field that scored Chase McBryar.Â
- Huntingdon loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but RHP Bryce Bollinger got a fly out to keep his shutout intact.Â
- Adelgren scored on a passed ball in the eighth inning to score Covenant's sixth and final run of the game.Â
GAME NOTES:
- Mills (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB), Benjamin Johnson (2-for-5) and Kimberly (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB) led the way offensively for the Scots.
- Covenant outhit Huntingdon 10-9.
- Both teams committed two errors.Â
- Bollinger threw seven shutout innings to pickup the win (7 IP, 8 H, 2 BB, 3 K).
- RHP Jonathan Glover closed the game out for the Scots (2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB).Â
Game 2 Final: Covenant 3, Huntingdon 13
Records: Covenant (8-12, 1-1 CCS), Huntingdon (10-8, 1-1 CCS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Covenant picked up where it left off to start game two with three runs in the first inning after RBI singles from Mills, Chris Savage, and Johnson. This turned out to be Covenant's only runs of the game.Â
- Huntingdon scored a run in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single.Â
- In the third inning, a RBI groundout followed by a solo home run for the Hawks tied the game at three.Â
- Later in the frame, Huntingdon took the lead for good with a 2-RBI double to left field.Â
- Four runs on five hits, and one hit-by-pitch put the Hawks up 9-3 in the fourth inning.Â
- The Scots were retired in order in the fifth and sixth innings.Â
- Huntingdon added another run in the sixth inning on a RBI groundout.Â
- The Hawks clinched the run-rule in the seventh inning with three runs highlighted by a 2-RBI double to right field.Â
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 14-22 all-time against Huntingdon.
- Huntingdon outhit Covenant 16-4.
- Each team committed one error.Â
- Mills, Savage, Johnson, and Daniel Bell were the Covenant players with a hit.Â
- RHP Zach Barrett was the losing pitcher of record (2.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HBP).
