LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant took to its home field for the first time this year for a doubleheader against Salem. Just as the weather did, the Covenant offense heated up as it won both games.Â
Game 1 Final: Covenant 10. Salem 8

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- Salem took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI fielder's choice.Â
- Ashlyn Gaines drove in two runs with a 2-RBI double to center field to put the Scots ahead in the first inning.Â
- Four hits and an infield error led to Salem scoring five runs and taking a 6-2 lead in the third inning.Â
- With the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame, Lakyn Hacker hit a 3-RBI double to put the Scots back within one run.Â
- Gaines tied the game in the fourth inning on a RBI single to center field that scored Olivia Stefl.Â
- Covenant took control of the game in the fifth inning with four runs as Helena Nagy, Stefl, and Gaines all delivered RBI base hits, highlighted by a 2-RBI triple down the left-field line from Stefl.Â
- The Spirits scored two runs in the seventh inning, but were unable to make the full comeback.Â
GAME NOTES:
- Gaines (4-for-4, 4 RBI) and Stefl (3-for-4, 2 RBI) led the charge offensively for Covenant.Â
- Nagy and Jaycie Lyles had strong games as well with two hits each.Â
- Covenant outhit Salem 15-9.
- Lauren Edgar picked up her first win of the year on the mound (6 IP, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 K).Â
- Valery Baxter pitched the final inning and picked up the save (1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER).Â
Game 2 Final: Covenant 14, Salem 8

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- A pair of infield errors in the first inning allowed Salem to go up 2-0.Â
- RBI singles from Stefl and Taylor Murdock tied the game at two in the bottom of the frame.Â
- Covenant took the lead for the first time in the second inning as Gaines drove in Stefl with a RBI single up the middle.Â
- Another error by the Scots allowed Salem to tie the game back up in the third inning.Â
- The Scots went up for good in the third inning as RBI singles from Bailey Johnson and Nagy scored two runs.Â
- Eight hits and one error in the fourth inning blew the game open for Covenant as it now led 12-3. Hacker, Hannah Blevins, Johnson, Nagy, Stefl, Lexi Tincknell, and Murdock all had at least one RBI in the big inning.Â
- Covenant struggled defensively in the fifth as three errors led to four unearned runs for Salem.Â
- Cassidi Phillips poked a RBI single in the fifth inning as the Scots led 13-7.Â
- Salem added its final run in the sixth inning on a RBI single up the middle.Â
- Madison Taylor made it 14-8 with a RBI single through the left side.Â
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 4-6 all-time against Salem.Â
- The Scots tied a school record with 24 hits in one game.Â
- 14 runs is a season-high for the Scots.
- Nagy (3-for-4, 3 RBI), Stefl (3-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 BB), and Murdock (3-for-4, 2 RBI) all had great games at the plate.Â
- Lyles, Hacker, Blevins, and Johnson each had two hits.
- Murdock picked up the win on the mound (4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 5 K)
- Mackenzie Kirby ( 2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) and Madison Bowden (1 IP, 1 H, 2 K) also appeared on the mound.Â
- Covenant committed six errors while Salem committed three.
UP NEXT: Covenant begins conference play on Saturday at LaGrange. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
