Scots Start Weekend With Defeat To LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. - Well into the second-half of the CCS schedule, Covenant battled LaGrange on the road. In a much more competitive game than when the two teams played in January, Covenant was defeated 82-70. 

Final: Covenant 70, LaGrange 82 
Records: Covenant (4-18, 0-9 CCS), LaGrange (14-9, 6-4 CCS)

FIRST HALF:

  • A 3-pointer by Luke Crowden and an inside layup from Pierce Smith had Covenant going toe-to-toe with LaGrange in the early goings. 
  • The Panthers then went on a 10-0 run to move ahead 15-5. 
  • Jesse Kinard kept the deficit at 10 points with a triple with 12:19 remaining. 
  • Kinard cut the LaGrange lead to seven points with his second 3-pointer midway through the half.
  • Another large scoring run for the Panthers, this one being 13 straight points put them in front 37-17.
  • Covenant didn't back down as a layup by Logan Pearlman was the tail end of a 6-0 run to put the score at 40-27.
  • Kinard and Gus Hood each knocked down jumpers in the final 90 seconds as Covenant trailed 44-31 at the break.

SECOND HALF:

  • David Compere had Covenant's first three baskets out of halftime which cut the LaGrange lead to eight points. 
  • A 7-0 run that included a breakaway slam for LaGrange pushed its lead back out to 15 points. 
  • A 3-pointer by Michael St. Germain sparked a 7-0 run for Covenant to put it back within single digits. 
  • A 16-2 run across six minutes for LaGrange ended any thoughts of a Covenant comeback. 
  • Kinard hit two more 3-pointers in the final few minutes as the Scots fell 82-70. 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant drops to 19-18 all-time against LaGrange. 
  • Kinard scored 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
  • Compere posted 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting. 
  • Covenant shot 42.2% (27-64) while LaGrange was 47.4% (27-57) from the field.
  • LaGrange had a significant advantage at the free throw line knocking down 22-of-31 attempts while Covenant had just nine attempts, of which it made seven of. 
  • Fast break points were in favor of LaGrange, 12-2.

UP NEXT: Covenant finishes the weekend with a trip to Huntingdon tomorrow. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
