Covenant Falls To Maryville on Senior Night

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - On its Senior Night, Covenant faced a tough-test in CCS Regular Season Champions Maryville. Maryville looked the part as it took the win 86-49. 

Final: Covenant 49, Maryville 86 
Records: Covenant (4-20, 0-11 CCS), Maryville (19-5, 11-1 CCS)

FIRST HALF:

  • Maryville knocked down six of its first seven shots to take a 16-5 lead. 
  • Maryville kept pressing on as a 7-0 run put it on top 23-8. 
  • A made jumper by Zak Thomas ended another 7-0 Maryville run later in the half as Covenant trailed 30-13
  • David Compere found some success driving to the basket as he made three layups within a few possessions of each other. 
  • Maryville scored the last three points of the half and led 44-25.

SECOND HALF:

  • The Scots made five free throws, but no baskets in the first seven minutes of the half before Pierce Smith got a layup to go with Maryville leading 55-32. 
  • Right after a made 3-pointer by Pearlman, Maryville went on a 10-0 run in less than two minutes to go up 71-41.
  • Compere and Jesse Kinard got triples to fall as the Scots still trailed 76-47. 
  • Covenant went scoreless the final 3:06 of the game and fell 86-49. 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant drops to 12-38 all-time against Maryville.
  • Kinard led the Scots with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. 
  • Compere scored in double-figures as well with 12 points.
  • Covenant was 28.3% (17-60) from the field while Maryville was 47.4% (27-57) shooting. 
  • Maryville made 16 3-pointers and outrebounded Covenant 42-29.
  • Prior to tip-off, student-assistant Keenan Lowery, #11 Eli Witt, #13 Logan Pearlman, #15 Jonathan Gernatt, #22 Michael St. Germain, and #33 Walker Mathis were recognized on Senior Night.  

UP NEXT: Covenant travels to Piedmont on Thursday for its final regular season game of the year before beginning the CCS Tournament next week. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
