Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Scots End Regular Season With Defeat; Earn No. 4 Seed

JACKSON, Miss. - Women's Soccer made its longest trip of the season, a visit to Belhaven on Saturday, in its final regular season match. It also happened to be one of its most important. With a win Covenant would lock down a first-round bye in the CCS Tournament. The Blazers had other plans though, using two early goals to help take down the Scots 3-1 and move them to the No. 4 seed in the Conference Tournament.

Final: Covenant 1, Belhaven 3
Records: Covenant (9-5-1, 5-2-1 CCS), Belhaven (11-5-1, 5-2-1 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Belhaven didn't waste any time as a strike from Ally Davis pushed it in front in the fourth minute.
  • Shortly after the first goal in the ninth minute, Micah Benson fired a shot in the goal from outside the box assisted by Jenny Satcher to make it 2-0 Blazers.
  • The Scots tried to answer quickly as Lila Wiley had shots saved in the 10th minute and 13th minute.
  • Less than 30 seconds before the intermission, Covenant got its lone goal as Mae Pierce delivered a cross from the right side that Campbell Ayres fired into the back of the net. '
  • At halftime, Belhaven had outshot Covenant 10-5.
  • Covenant had an early corner kick in the second half that Gretchen Caswell could get a shot off for, but the Belhaven keeper was true to it.
  • In the 67th minute, Belhaven made it 3-1 as Kaci Craft buried a penalty kick after Blythe Jelley committed a foul in the box.
  • Hannah Ford and Emma Riggs each had shots on target in the final 10 minutes, but neither was good enough to beat the Belhaven keeper.

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 3-4 all-time against Belhaven.
  • Belhaven outshot Covenant 15-9, but the Scots and Blazers were tied in shots on goal with seven.
  • Belhaven had a higher foul count at 10-9.
