Women's Soccer Ends Year With Defeat To Asbury

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Scots took on Asbury in the Quarterfinals of the CCS tournament. Covenant was looking to beat the Eagles again as it did in the regular season, but were unable to put any goals on the board, as their season came to a close with a 2-0 loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Covenant had two corner kicks in the first minute and change but were unable to convert on either attempt
  • The game's first goal was scored by Asbury as Hannah Muncie buried her shot in the left part of the net in the 19th minute off of a great pass from Peighton Sowder.
  • In the 23rd minute, Lila Wiley looked to have a great opportunity to score, however play was stopped as the Scots were called for offside in what was a very close play.
  • At the half, both teams had taken just three shots.
  • Just seconds into the second half, Asbury capitalized on a Covenant mistake as Emily Carpenter scored with an open net to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
  • Covenant got its first shot on goal from Gretchen Caswell, however it was saved by Maliya Crump in the 64th minute.
  • In the 66th minute, Asbury had a shot on goal but it was saved by Bronwyn Kickasola.
  • In the 74th minute, Mae Pierce put a dangerous shot on goal, only to be saved by Crump who barely got a hand on it, as the ball was headed to the top right corner of the net.
  • Covenant put up five more shots in the last 15 minutes, but were unable to put any in the net.

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant moves to 6-4 all-time against Asbury.
  • Covenant outshot Asbury 11-6 with Asbury putting five shots on goal to Covenant's three.
  • Covenant had a higher foul count at 10-5.
