DEMOREST, Ga. - The Scots needed a win in their final regular season game to secure the CCS Regular Season Championship and No. 1 seed in the Conference Tournament. Covenant did just that on Tuesday night at Piedmont with a 3-1 win, earning its first trophy of the fall.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- In what would become a big theme of the night, Piedmont had two consecutive shots in the 10th minute rattle off the goal post.Â
- In the 22nd minute, Piedmont earned a penalty kick opportunity after a foul in the box, however Covenant keeper Eli Honecutt saved Jason Aussin's kick with a great dive to the left.Â
- The Lions got their goal in the 32nd minute as a long throw led to a headed shot off the goalpost that Nathan Jacome volleyed into the back of the net.Â
- Just under a minute later, Tyler Swinehart scored from close range after Kade Theunissen set him up with a nice one-touch pass
- In the 42nd minute, Piedmont hit the goal post again with a curled effort from outside the box.
- At the half, each team had taken 11 shots
- Covenant posted three shots in the first 13 minutes of the second half.Â
- A Kade Theunissen corner kick followed by a touch from Fox Landgren led to Jonathan Welsh scoring a bicycle kick from close range to put Covenant up 2-1 in the 62nd minute.Â
- The Scots nearly scored again in the 65th minute as it was their turn to hit the woodwork as Luke Laughlin fell unlucky.Â
- In the 81st minute, a free kick from Davis Knight of the Lions fired off the crossbar and out for a goal kick.
- Covenant secured the win in the 84th minute as Theunissen converted a penalty kick opportunity after Whitt Tisdale was fouled in the box.Â
GAME NOTES:Â
- Covenant moves to 20-1-1 all-time against Piedmont.
- The Scots narrowly outshot the Lions 22-21, but had a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.Â
- Each team had four corner kicks.
- The foul count was 13-12 Covenant.Â
