Abby Witt Scores Career-High 15 Points in Defeat to LaGrange

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant took on LaGrange at home for its second conference game in as many days. The Panthers were up 10 after one quarter and didn't look back, defeating the Scots 71-49.

FIRST QUARTER:

  • A pair of free throws by Abby Witt and a made jumper from Karis McIntosh put Covenant ahead 4-0 in the early goings. 
  • LaGrange proceeded to go on a 16-0 run to go up 12 points. 
  • Breezy Savage ended the scoring drought after seven minutes as the Scots trailed 16-6 after one quarter. 

 SECOND QUARTER:

  • Witt had the first points of the quarter with a made jumper assisted by Megan Rouse. 
  • With 7:11 remaining, McIntosh knocked down a triple to cut the LaGrange lead to 21-13. 
  • The Panthers scored six consecutive points to go up 14 midway through the quarter. 
  • Witt continued to be the hot hand for Covenant, as she scored its final seven points before halftime, but LaGrange led 36-21. 

 THIRD QUARTER:

  • An inside basket followed by a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession for LaGrange put it ahead 43-23. 
  • Rouse got a layup to go, but Covenant couldn't get a defensive stop the next two possessions and trailed 47-25. 
  • Savage found her shot with two triples in the quarter to cut the lead to 49-31. 
  • LaGrange ended the quarter with a 3-pointer with seven seconds left, to go into the final 10 minutes up 54-36. 

 FOURTH QUARTER:

  • A 7-0 run early in the quarter put the game away for the Panthers with a 61-38 advantage. 
  • Another triple for LaGrange pushed its lead to 67-40. 
  • In the final minutes, Cair Canady made four free throws and Rilee Smith hit a 3-pointer for the Scots. 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant drops to 6-23 all-time against LaGrange. 
  • Witt led Covenant with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. 
  • Savage was also in double-figures with 10 points and three assists. 
  • Covenant shot 29.6% (16-54) from the field while LaGrange was 40% (28-70) shooting.
  • LaGrange won the rebounding battle 41-29.

UP NEXT: Covenant has another home game on Thursday, Jan. 11th against Belhaven. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
