LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - After winning a nonconference game in its last outing, Covenant continued CCS play with a visit from Berea. The Scots gave it their best shot, but the Mountaineers made the shots when it counted the most to get a road win.

Records: Covenant (4-15, 0-6 CCS), Berea (10-10, 5-2 CCS)
FIRST HALF:
- Berea came out of the gates on an 8-0 run to take control of the game early.
- An 8-2 run with a couple of baskets by David Compere put Covenant within two points at 10-8.
- Covenant kept pushing forward as a 9-0 run capped off by a layup from Gus Hood put it ahead 17-13.
- The two teams traded baskets as a triple by Jesse Kinard put the Scots up 24-21 with 8:54 remaining.
- This started eight consecutive points by Kinard as he put his team ahead 29-23.
- The lead reached its peak at 33-25 after a fastbreak layup from Logan Pearlman.
- With the score at 38-34, Berea went on a 11-0 run to go back up 45-38.
- Compere made two free throws in the final seconds to cut the Berea lead to 45-40 at the intermission.
SECOND HALF:
- Pearlman scored the first points of the half, before the Mountaineers went on a 10-0 run to push their lead to 55-42.
- An inside bucket by Eli Witt followed by a made triple from Compere cut the Berea lead to 60-49.
- A 9-1 run for the Scots highlighted by a 3-pointer and a layup from Michael St. Germain put Covenant back within five points with 9:30 remaining.
- The Scots then went scoreless for just over six minutes as Berea ended any thoughts of a comeback with an 11-0 run.
- Thomas Malcolm had an old-fashioned 3-point play for Covenant in the final minute of the game.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant drops to 11-6 all-time against Berea.
- Kinard led Covenant with 20 points and eight rebounds.
- Compere was also in double-digits scoring with 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
- The Scots shot 43.1% (25-58) from the field while the Mountaineers were 50% (30-60).
- From behind the 3-point line, Covenant was 25% (6-24) while Berea was 55% (11-20).
- Rebound margin was close with Berea having the edge 29-25.
UP NEXT: Covenant hits the road to Jackson, Mississippi to take on Belhaven on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m.
