GALLATIN, Tenn. - For its final nonconference game of the year, Covenant visited Welch. Thanks to a buzzer-beater floater by Gus Hood, the game went to OT, where the Scots came out on top 85-82.

FIRST HALF:
- After Covenant missed its first four shots of the night, Logan Pearlman put his team on the board with a 3-pointer.
- A layup by Colt Donley on the fast break capped off a 7-0 run for the Scots that gave them a 10-6 advantage.
- After tying the game, the Flames knocked down a pair of triples to move ahead 18-12.
- An 8-2 run that ended with a Jesse Kinard 3-pointer tied the game up again with 7:23 remaining.
- The two teams traded baskets for a few minutes, before a 3-pointer by Welch gave it a 28-24 lead.
- Five consecutive points for David Compere pushed Covenant back in front 32-30.
- Eli Scarlett knocked down a triple and pair of free throws to put the Flames up one point going into the locker room.
SECOND HALF:
- Covenant scored on three of its first four possessions to move ahead 41-38.
- Pierce Smith scored five points inside a span of two minutes to help put the Scots up 55-46.
- With the Scots up eight points, the Flames went on a 6-0 run to put the score at 62-60.
- Kinard got another jumper to go to keep his team up 68-63 before a quick 5-0 run for the Flames tied the game with 2:40 remaining.
- The Flames took the lead back with four seconds left as they made a layup while getting fouled.
- The ensuing free throw was missed as Kinard got the rebound and passed it to Hood who made a floater at the buzzer to send the game to OT.
OVERTIME:
- Welch scored on its first possession before Covenant went on a 5-0 run to move ahead 79-76.
- An old-fashioned 3-point play for Welch pushed it back ahead 80-79.
- Fisher Mitchell gave the lead back to the Scots before Welch was fouled on the next possession and made both free throws.
- As the shot clock was expiring, Kinard made a contested jumper that would give the Scots back the lead with 49 seconds remaining.
- Covenant got two defensive stops afterwards to hold onto a 85-82 win.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 2-4 all-time against Welch, formally known as Free Will Baptist.
- Compere scored a game-high 20 points with six rebounds.
- Kinard tallied 17 points on 5-of-13 shooting with five made free throws.
- Pearlman (11 points), Hood (10 points), and Mitchell (10 points) were also in double figures.
- The Scots shot 42.3% (30-71) while the Flames were 42.4% (28-66).
- Covenant won the battle on the glass with 50 rebounds to Welch's 38.
- The win ends a 11-game losing skid for the Scots.
UP NEXT: Covenant hosts Berea on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as it resumes conference play.
