BEREA, Ky. - Covenant opened conference play with a visit to Berea. A cold night shooting for the Scots hurt them as they were defeated 72-54.

FIRST HALF:
- David Compere got the Scots on the board with a 3-pointer to take a 3-2 lead.
- Berea quickly went on a 6-0 run before Luke Crowden responded with a triple to cut the lead to 8-6.
- A 3-pointer capped off a 7-0 run for the Mountaineers to put them ahead 15-6.
- The lead Berea reached double-digits at 19-9 after a made jumper with 11:13 remaining.
- Crowden cut the lead back to single digits at 24-16 after cashing in a 3-pointer.
- Berea went on another run, this one being eight consecutive points to go up 34-18.
- Colt Donley had a baseline dunk in the final minute of the half to cut the lead to 34-20 at the intermission.
SECOND HALF:
- Jesse Kinard put Covenant on the board in the second half with a lay-in as it trailed 37-22.
- A 10-3 run for Berea pushed its lead to 47-25.
- Jonathan Gernatt scored the next seven points for Covenant, but he was the only guy finding the bottom of the basket as it trailed 57-32 midway through the half.
- Back-to-back baskets by Pierce Smith cut the Berea lead to 61-40.
- The Mountaineers continued to press forward with an 11-2 run to go up 72-42 with 2:32 remaining.
- Michael St. Germain buried two triples in the final few minutes of the game to cut into the Berea lead.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant drops to 11-5 all-time against Berea.
- Gernatt was the only Covenant player in double-figures with 11 points.
- The Scots shot 29.4% (20-68) from the field while the Mountaineers were 44.3% (27-61) shooting.
- Each team struggled to make 3-pointers with Covenant shooting 16.7% (6-36) and Berea shooting 15.8% (3-19).
- Fast break points were in favor of Berea, 19-5.
