LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - In front of a packed gym for Max Out Barnes, Covenant battled Belhaven. The Scots and Blazers played an entertaining game, but Belhaven pulled out the narrow victory.

FIRST HALF:
- Jonathan Gernatt scored Covenant's first five points early on as it went ahead by two.
- David Compere knocked down a transition 3-pointer before Luke Crowden made an inside basket to put the Scots up 10-7.
- Covenant continued to hit the 3-ball with Jesse Kinard making one to take a 15-11 lead with 9:49 remaining.
- 3-pointers by Eli Witt and Gernatt increased Covenant's lead to 21-14.
- Belhaven hit back with five points in a row to put the score at 28-25 with 2:10 left before halftime.
- Kinard hit a jumper with 15 seconds remaining to give his team a 30-25 lead at the break.
SECOND HALF:
- It didn't take long for the Blazers to respond as a 3-pointer put them ahead 39-36 right before the first media timeout.
- A transition dunk capped off a quick 5-0 run for Belhaven as it now led 44-38.
- Logan Pearlman and David Compere each made a layup to keep Covenant within four points at 46-42.
- A 6-0 run for the Blazers gave them their biggest lead of the game at 56-46 with 4:57 remaining.
- Seven points by Kinard highlighted an 8-0 run for Covenant to cut the Belhaven lead to two points.
- An old-fashioned 3-point play for Kinard tied the game at 57 with 1:18 remaining and sent Barnes into a frenzy.
- A made free throw then a tough made basket by Belhaven put it ahead 60-57 with less than 15 seconds left in the game.
- On the ensuing possession, Covenant turned the ball over, ending its chances at sending the game to OT.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant drops to 4-3 all-time against Belhaven.
- Kinard tied his career high with 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
- Gernatt was also in double-digits offensively with 14 points.
- Covenant shot 37.5% (21-56) from the field while Belhaven was 38.6% (22-57) shooting.
- Belhaven won the rebound battle 34-27.
UP NEXT: Covenant has the weekend off before resuming conference play on Tuesday, January 16th at Piedmont. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
