The top-seeded men's tennis team defeated second-seeded Piedmont 5-2 last Saturday to claim the 2023 Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Tennis Championship at the Rome Tennis Center.
With the win, Covenant (18-6 overall) completed a perfect CCS campaign, as they went 6-0 during league play during the regular season and then beat Huntingdon in the semifinals 5-0 to make their way to the championship.
The Scots got off to a good start versus Piedmont as they took two of the three matches in doubles play, including a key 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles by the combination of Ben Onufrock and Austin Dreslinski.Â
Onufrock and Dreslinski would go on to win their respective matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles leaving them just one point away from the title. Covenant's Ethan Gibson would provide the clincher as he won at No. 4, defeating Mike Porcelli, 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 to give the Scots the title.
Ben Onufrock was voted the tournament's most outstanding player while Ethan Gibson and Austin Dreslinski were selected to the 2023 Collegiate Conference of the South Men's Tennis All-Tournament Team for their wins.
