Box Score 4 The Men's team traveled to Orlando, Florida last week to compete in seven matches over the spring break. They finished the trip with an impressive 5-2 record to extend their season record to 9-3.
Opening up match play on Saturday to Calvin and Wittenberg, the Scots succeeded in gaining the victory in both matches 6-3, even after going down two matches in doubles.
Austin Dreslinski,
Gill Dunn, and
Ethan Gibson all secured singles tiebreak victories to seal the match.
On Monday, the opponents faced were Northwestern (UNW) and #29 Haverford. The Scots dispatched UNW 9-0 in the morning, yet lost a tight 4-5 match to Haverford, the first nationally ranked team they faced yet thisseason.
After Covenant going up 2-1 after close 8-6 doubles wins at lines one and two,
Austin Dreslinski at line two won his singles match 10-8 in the tiebreaker to extend the lead.
Gill Dunn at line five won his match in two sets, but Haverford swept the rest of the singles lines to win the match.
In Tuesday's match play, the Scots would face both St. Johns and Otterbein. Taking down St. Johns 6-3 on Tuesday morning, Covenant Men's Tennis was set to go up against Otterbein in the evening at the USTA National Campus.
After hard fought doubles play, Covenant took the lead 2-1. Third-set tiebreaks continued to go the Scots' way as
Ben Onufrock,
Austin Dreslinski,and
Gill Dunn fought to secure singles wins at lines one, two, and five. The match finished 5-3 on decision with Covenant winning.
The last match of the trip was against DII opponent Cedarville. After losing the doubles point, the Scots battled back to level the score at 3-3. Senior
Ben Luke fought his way to winning at line three singles after dropping the first set. Cedarville would eventually come away with the win, however, defeating Covenant 4-3.
UP NEXT
Both the men's and women's teams travel to Berry on Friday, March 17. To follow, Tennis will then open upconference play against Berea on Saturday, March 18th at home.
