COLUMBUS, Ohio. - For its second game of the Smokey Ballenger Classic, Covenant took on Adrian in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. In a low-scoring battle, Adrian narrowly edged out Covenant, 51-47.

FIRST HALF:
- The Bulldogs raced out to a 10-3 lead after just over four minutes of play.
- Jonathan Gernatt knocked down Covenant's first shot of the afternoon to cut the lead to 10-6, after its first four points were made free throws.
- Gernatt hit a 3-pointer with 11:21 remaining to put Covenant within three points at 14-11.
- The Scots went on a 10-0 run with four different players scoring to take the lead 23-18.
- Adrian made an inside shot with 1:43 left to end a scoreless drought of over eight minutes.
- Covenant scored the final three points of the half to go into the locker room up six points, 26-20.
SECOND HALF:
- David Compere scored on Covenant's first possession of the half to push its lead to eight points.
- The Bulldogs responded with a 13-0 run to go ahead 33-28.
- Gernatt got the Scots back on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer by Gernatt to get back within two points with 12:45 left.
- Adrian went on a 9-0 run to put its lead to double-digits at 44-33.
- Covenant didn't back down as 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions by Compere and Pearlman put the score at 44-39.
- The Scots got to within three points with 55 seconds remaining as Compere scored after grabbing an offensive rebound.
- Covenant got a stop defensively, but could not get a 3-pointer to go on the ensuing possession to tie the game.
- Adrian made 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to close the game out.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant drops to 0-1 all-time against Adrian.
- Gernatt led the Scots in scoring with 15 points and was named to the All-Tournament team after the game.
- Compere was also in double-figures with 13 points.
- Jesse Kinard had eight rebounds to lead Covenant on the glass.
- Covenant was 28.6% (16-56) from the field while Adrian was 48.2% (22-51) shooting.
- The Scots forced 17 turnovers and only turned the ball over eight times.
- Adrian won the rebound battle 44-30.
UP NEXT: Covenant begins CCS play with a visit to Berea on January 2nd. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
