ATLANTA, Ga. - Covenant traveled to Oglethorpe looking to pick up a win in its final game before Christmas. A slow first half haunted the Scots, as they fell 95-77. Â

FIRST HALF:
- The Petrels opened the game by scoring seven of the first nine points.Â
- Oglethorpe rode a 6-0 scoring run before a layup by Gus Hood ended it as the Scots trailed 13-7.Â
- As the half progressed, a layup by David Compere kept Covenant within eight points with 9:28 remaining.Â
- The Scots went scoreless for just over four minutes that allowed the Petrels to pull ahead 30-16.Â
- 3-pointers on consecutive possessions by Jonathan Gernatt kept Covenant within 10 points with 2:28 left in the half.Â
- Oglethorpe ended the half on a 7-1 run which included a 3-pointer as time expired to go into the intermission ahead 42-26.Â
SECOND HALF:
- Fisher Mitchell got Covenant on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer on its third possession.Â
- Oglethorpe responded with a 10-0 run to quickly put it ahead 24 points.Â
- Kinard hit two 3-pointers and Hood one triple, but the Scots struggled to get stops on defense that would help them cut into the big lead.Â
- Midway through the half, the Petrels lead reached 30 points at 72-42 with a 3-pointer.Â
- Covenant continued to trade baskets and trail around 30 points for the next six minutes.Â
- The Scots ended the game on a 17-6 scoring run, with six points by Pierce Smith to make the final score not as lopsided.Â
GAME NOTES:Â
- Covenant drops to 4-6 all-time against Oglethorpe.Â
- Gernatt scored 13 points to lead Covenant offensively.Â
- Kinard was also in double-figures scoring with 10 points.Â
- Covenant shot 40% (26-65) while Oglethorpe was 50.8% (31-61) from the field.Â
- Each team had nine turnovers.Â
- The Petrels made 14 triples while the Scots knocked down 10 3-pointers.Â
UP NEXT: Covenant has some time off for Christmas before heading to Columbus, Ohio to play in the Smokey Ballenger Classic. Its first game is on Dec. 29 at 5 p.m. against Illinois College.Â
