ATLANTA, Ga. - Covenant traveled to Oglethorpe for its first game of the 2023-24 campaign. The Scots never recovered from an early deficit, starting the year with a loss.Â

FIRST QUARTER:
- In the opening three minutes, Oglethorpe scored the first 11 points of the game to take an early lead.
- Rilee Smith and Karis McIntosh each knocked down a triple for Covenant to cut the lead to 17-7.
- A 6-0 run by the Petrels to end the quarter gave them a 23-9 advantage.Â
 SECOND QUARTER:
- Behind made free throws from Lucy Benson and Megan Rouse, Covenant drew closer to Oglethorpe at 23-13.Â
- With the help of two 3-pointers, Oglethorpe went on a 9-0 scoring run to take a 32-13 lead.Â
- In the final five minutes of the quarter, Smith, McIntosh, and Breezy Savage knocked down triples.
- Rouse hit a layup right before halftime, but the Scots were down 45-25.
 THIRD QUARTER:
- McIntosh had two shots fall for Covenant to put it down 48-30.
- Rouse had another inside bucket to keep the score at 54-35, Oglethorpe with just under two minutes left in the quarter.
- A 3-pointer for the Petrels then a layup from Benson for Covenant put the score at 59-37 after three quarters.
 FOURTH QUARTER:
- Savage hit a 3-pointer to keep the score within 20 points with 6:42 remaining.Â
- Cair Canady, Emma Kaye Fuller, and Katie Edney each got on the scoresheet in the closing minutes for the Scots.Â
GAME NOTES:Â
- Covenant drops to 2-9 all-time against Oglethorpe.
- McIntosh led the Scots with 14 points.
- Rouse posted 10 rebounds to go along with her seven points.
- Covenant was 25% (14-56) from the field while Oglethorpe was 36% (27-75) shooting.Â
- The Scots had 21 turnovers and forced 13 Oglethorpe turnovers on defense.Â
UP NEXT: Covenant has its home opener on Friday against Warren Wilson. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
